Chie Imai
Founder & Lead Designer of the luxury brand CHIE IMAI

In the 1960s, an era when it was rare for women to pursue professional careers, she began her journey as a cabin attendant.

In 1977, she launched an import-export business. Upon reaching a significant milestone in the industry, she felt a growing desire to transition from a trader to a manufacturer, creating her own original products.

Her vision was to create fur coats and jackets that were light, portable, and effortless to wear—featuring vibrant colors that seem to dance elegantly. Through a process of trial and error alongside master craftsmen in Finland, this vision became a reality.

In the 1980s, the "MOSAIQUE de CHIE" made its spectacular debut, eventually becoming the definitive identity of the brand.

She also made her mark on the international stage at the Fur Information Council of America Fashion Week held in New York.

In 2002, she was recognized in Paris as one of the world's leading female entrepreneurs, receiving the "The Star Group’s Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World" award.

In 2014, in recognition of her long-standing dedication to promoting friendly relations between Japan and Finland, she became the first Japanese female fashion designer to be awarded the "Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland."

Currently, she is also dedicated to social contribution. She actively supports the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation in the United States, providing funding for innovative research to help cure spinal cord injuries.
